Xanthos-Letoon to Antalya

Leaving the gorgeous sunny area of Xanthos-Letoon and heading towards Antalya, the journey was nearly four hours of blissful driving, on the afternoon of Sunday 15 March, 2015.

There’s not much to see in these photos. First of all there’s a nice cove on the side of the road, between Letoon and Kaş, and looking down onto the ragged rocks the clear blue waters of the Aegean made me want to jump over the wall and straight in! There’s a similar view a bit further on, this time with an open beach-like area.

The next few photos, inland, were an attempt to find the site of Myra but after driving for a couple of kilometres on a very rough gravelly track, on reaching what appeared to be a private house I decided to turn back and carry on the main road to Antalya.

The road to Antalya was pleasant and clear, for the most part, but once in Antalya the sky was dark. There is no photography at all from Antalya itself – it was a chance to leave the camera in the hotel and just wander the streets at night and enjoy a relaxing time before setting off again early morning towards Aspendos. I found Antalya to be a pleasantly calm city and the time was spent in Kaleiçi (old town) where restaurants, bars, and tight streets provided the ambience of times past.

There is only one incident to report on this journey. Heading into Antalya itself I hit a cyclist with my wing mirror in traffic! His wrist was hurt, it appeared, and he wasn’t too impressed with me! On the defensive side he had no lights and neither did that part of the street, I didn’t see him very well although I knew he was there, I couldn’t judge the distance correctly with him being on the right side of the car and me in the left seat, which I’m not used to, and after several days of driving on open roads and mountainous areas a busy city at night was the last thing I needed! Oh well, he may still be alive…
