France
As you know I dislike the media’s (and occasionally idiotic archaeologist’s) constant comparisons with renowned sites, so I will refrain from making any references to a certain famous Roman city in Italy that was covered in volcanic ash.
What we have here are extensively preserved remains of a house and other buildings in the ancient Roman city of Vienne, in southern France.
I’m about to get some zzzz’s so I will leave you all to read the report, although I can assure you from the pictures there is no way on earth excavations only started on this site in April. For this season, maybe, but certainly not from the beginning. It looks to me as if they’ve been digging there for years. Well, if Tony Robinson can lie his arse off on TV about time scales, then so can this lot!
